ADHD

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that causes you to be inattentive, hyperactive, impulsive, easily distracted and can make it very hard for you to listen and prioritise. Most importantly those with ADHD suffer from emotional dysregulation, which means you can get upset very easily for a long time. If you feel like you have been this way since you were a child, it is important to get a diagnosis from a psychologist or psychiatrist. I have only touched on the symptoms of adult ADHD. There are many more comprehensive explanations in my list of wonderful resources. If you have ADHD and are diagnosed you may blame yourself for having deficits. You may feel flawed and unable to do things others do easily because you actually can't! Your brain is wired differently to everyone else's. The ADHD brain's executive functions don't talk to each other the way a neurotypical brain does.

This means the way you feel isn't your fault. It's your brain. When adults go a long time without being diagnosed they can develop depression and anxiety because they can't achieve all that they want to achieve and know they can. Relationships can also be severely affected. If you feel you may have ADHD please get a diagnosis. There is medication and a lot of resources and even ADHD coaching to help you have the best life possible and that you deserve. Before I was diagnosed I thought I was just flawed, now I know why I couldn't listen in school even though I wanted to. I also understand why trying to be organised took such massive effort. My life has improved tremendously and so has my self-esteem.
